a close-up of the seeds |
I had to busy myself after work for an hour this past Friday before catching a train north to my sister's home. Busying one's self in nyc is not necessarily a difficult thing to do, however, I was on a quest to find something that was affordable AND on the way to Grand Central.
I had recently read article on Flipboard (another very cool Iphone app I just learned about from a friend) about an art exhibit by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei featuring sunflower seeds, and after researching the “what’s” and the “where’s” decided I would spend my time visiting them.

I watched a video about the artist and his vision before I went and was sold.
The art gallery was located on West 24
th Street, which is west of the
High Line (aka very far west in Manhattan and not really on the way to Grand Central, but I was willing to make the voyage).
The exhibit was located inside one large room in a square pile that measured 51 feet long and 33 feet wide and was shaped like a plateau.
One is able to walk all the way around the pile to view the 100 million hand-painted ceramic sunflower seeds.
It was a sight to see.
