put your rump on a stump

That was the table next to ours -
so freaking adorable.
That is the actual tagline from the restaurant I went to this past weekend with my sister.  Although it was a very last minute trip up to CT, things worked out quite well - especially dinner.  Apparently my dad (Hi Dad - this is your official shout out!) read about this establishment in his Yankee Magazine.  He asked my sister if she had ever been, but because it is a few towns over and she is a very busy individual, she never found time to go...that is until this past weekend.  We usually hit up the Clam Castle on the way home from the beach, but she remembered talking to him about The Place (that's the name of the restaurant) and said we had to go.  As long as a place serves seafood, I am in.  It didn't really take that much convincing.

This place (or The Place) is amazing.  You drive up and first spot the sign alongside of the road that says "An Unusual Restaurant".  Then you pull in and realize only a third of the tables actually have shelter (which comes in the form of a red and white striped circus-like tent), and the rest of the tables and the “kitchen” are outside.  I say "kitchen" loosely because it consists of a few flat areas and a super long grill.  There is one large menu, made from wood, nailed up so everyone can see.  They serve a few appetizers (clams, steamers, mussels, shrimp) and a few entrees (grilled lobster, bluefish, salmon, and for the non-seafood eaters, chicken and steak).  There are two choices for sides:  veggie kabob or roasted corn.  We opted for clams, mussels, and corn.  It was delicious and the total came to under $30.00.  It is bring your own, which we thought just meant alcohol, but we saw other folks with salads, cheese and crackers, wasabi peas, etc.  And like the title and photo show, there are no seats, just stumps.  Click here to visit the website.
