loving my new sneakers |
Now that the party is over, I need to get serious about my training plan. I began running three weeks ago and am up to three miles. I signed up for a seven-mile trail run in August with a dear friend. The race is in northwestern Connecticut and I am EXCITED. The two of us ran a half marathon in Vermont a few years ago, but we didn’t train properly and it was awful. If we were older we wouldn’t have made it. My husband ran it at the last minute and had no problem. Damn men.
Well, this time I am going to be ready and I am going to enjoy it. I actually drove through the area a few weekends ago and it was GORGEOUS. It was green and lush and mountainous – some of my absolute favorite things. I feel one hundred times better than I did all winter and early spring. I know myself well enough to know exercise makes me feel great, but I also get super lazy at times and have trouble addressing it. I figured this would at least give me some motivation until August. After the race, I may start the two month training plan over. It is a mix of running, cross-training, and walking, and in my opinion seven miles isn't overly ambitious or crazy. Hooray for being in shape and hooray for running through mountains!
I got some new kicks too! Think I might like my old ones better though; I got some trail runners and am having trouble getting used to the nibs on the bottom. Now to get myself back in the habit of running everywhere I go (the heat has me on my bike instead). -J
