I can swing an ax, and I know how to properly hang one, too. I own an ax; a Snow and Neally. I had to carry it around with me on my first trail crew, like it was my child. I still have never held a baby, but I carried an ax for 12 weeks in the White Mountains. I took really good care of it.
Right now it is living in our garage. It is probably rusty and needs to be sharpened. The last time I used it was in our woods to split wood for the fireplace. Swinging it was a little tougher than I remembered, but that is probably because I spend most of my days sitting at a desk, not running around the mountains of the northeast conquering 4 to 22 miles a day. Those were the good old days…
