I was able to enjoy two of my favorite worlds this past weekend – the forest and the beach. I awoke on Saturday morning and after running a few errands (library and farm stand), I went for a run at Holmdel Park. It is a beautiful park full of wooded trails and hills. I prefer running on land that isn’t flat, so it works out perfectly - not to mention it is a quick 10-minute drive from home.
The smells of the forest are my favorite, but I pretty much love everything about it (bugs not included). I was almost brought to tears looking around and thinking about all of the time I have spent in the woods. The woods help me clear my mind and put my life into perspective. They are something I do not ever think I could live without.
It amazes me how something so simple, like some trees and a dirt path, can mean so much. Although it isn’t part of the Long Trail, or the AT, or a trail up a very high peak, I love my little forest and will miss it when the snow begins to fall.
