The English cucumber and I have recently become best friends. They taste SO good. It is a vegetable you can buy in the winter that still packs a refreshing, summer-like taste, or in other words; a risk-free option to satisying the need to taste some veggie freshness when your local farmstand is closed.
For some reason I was never a fan of the English cucumber, but this winter I have been enjoying them. I slice them up and eat them with hummus for lunch and add them to salads for dinner. They are said to be sweeter than regular cucumbers. I could buy that. They also have thinner skin, which make them easier to digest.
Now all I have to do is be careful not to overdo it with the cucs. I tend to get obsessed with certain foods and then never want to eat them again. Unfortunately, this never happens with lobster, butter, or ice cream. I would probably be twenty pounds lighter if it did...
ha! yea, matt's mom called them "burpless" cucumbers- which I have seen in the summertime for planting vegetables that it's a variety, must be english. But they don't make you burp even when you eat the skin- how convenient!
