ticker-tape parades and I will never be friends

someone please tell me
why this is okay
Why on earth are these ticker-tape parades still going on in this day and age?  Haven’t we learned by now that littering is bad?  Or that recycling is good?  Or that parades can be enjoyable without confetti and rolls of toilet paper flying through the air?  What is the deal?

I do love the hour-long break we got from work today (my schedule for the week is not that busy AND my office is on Broadway - we get to watch the parade from the fourth floor of our building), but it just seems so wasteful and ridiculous.  Also, why is it okay for kids to skip school and attend a parade that is paying tribute to a football team?

I am all for celebrating victories and having fun, but shouldn’t this be scheduled to happen on a weekend?  This was the second parade I got to witness in person (I saw a Yankee parade too) and I just don’t understand it...and I am not sure I ever will.

  1. Amen! What moron thinks that littering is the best way to celebrate??? It's ridiculous! And... I was thrilled that the Bruins won the cup last year but would I have taken my child out of school for a victory parade? No! There has to be a LEARNING experience involved for me to pull my kid out of school! But... I'm mean like that. :-)

  2. I kept saying I could understand if the President was going to make an appearance, or some other influential person, but Eli Manning?!?!? Come on. Not a good enough excuse in my book either.

  3. The best part is being trapped and locked into the crowd of thousands as your feet get stepped on and you get pushed from every direction while trying to tell yourself you can hold it when you never had to go to the bathroom so bad in your life. There is nothing fun about these events.

  4. Nope. I was glad to be in my office. Most of the businesses in the area close, so there really is no where to go to the bathroom. It is awful. I heard nye in Times Square is even worse because alcohol is involved, so not only is there no where to go to the bathroom, people who drank too much are getting sick all over the place. No thank you.
