is it necessary, or just me being lazy

I wish it was grey or black.
I don't love white plastic.
Who is ready for some more egg talk?  I am.  Is it Easter yet or what?  I was cutting eggs the other night for the previously mentioned potato salad and thought to myself - maybe I should purchase an egg slicer?!?!?  I just did a touch of research and it seems like the OXO model is best.  The bottom rotates so the egg can be sliced both ways, resulting in a perfectly chopped egg.  It also appears to be easy to clean which seems to be a big complaint amongst others.  I have seen a piece on CBS Sunday Morning about OXO and believe in their products.  Their R&D/design team thinks of everything.

I guess I found the one I would pay money for, but the real question is - is this really necessary?  Knives and cutting boards also work and are easy to clean.  Should I just do it the old fashioned way and forego this modern amenity?  Maybe.  Maybe not.

  1. I think people can be over-gadgetized, but that's all up the individual. Maybe you buy an egg slicer b/c you slice a lot of eggs. But maybe you instead don't have a garlic press. Just pick your gadgets carefully, and leave some kitchen tasks to a knife and cutting board. (So, yes, buy it.)

My favorite gadgets (if you can call them such) are a mini whisk, a microplaner, a mandoline, and a heavy duty citrus reamer.

  2. It's funny you mention kitchen gadgets today, I just read this article:

On another note, back in the day during my time as a waitress I loved when someone would order the chef salad at Friendly's and I would get to use the egg slicer - it slices through the egg like magic!

I also love the microplaner, it has changed my life for the better.

  3. I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I actually saw that article right after I made the post and laughed. I also realized that I will be heading back to the Homeland in two weeks and wonder if the parental units have one I could "borrow" for free. Free gadgets are way more fun to use then gadgets that cost money. I also just bought an Amazon voucher ($10 for $5), so if I bought the OXO one it would end up costing $10. Is it worth it...?
And I love the Friendly's shout out.
