agriculture dependent, aka agrarian

the WS chicken coop, a $1200+
endeavor, and that doesn't even
include the actual chickens
Williams-Sonoma has launched a new department they dubbed "agrarian".  Although I think it is wonderful they are introducing their client base to growing their own food and raising their own chickens, I feel as though these sorts of things are supposed to be more homemade and not so "Williams-Sonoma-ed".

I know WS has a lot of over-priced items, but there kitchen gadgets are amazing.  I like WS for many reasons.  However, I think people should be growing food from seeds that come from a place closer to their home.  I also think that if someone decides to have chickens, he/she should be constructing the coop themselves, with the help from some family and friends.  Not ordering it online from WS.

Do I not think this chicken coop is absolutely adorable?  No.  It is, and it is green, and green is my favorite color, and everything green is awesome.  I just think something is lost when one buys something like this from a place like WS.  I also think it is wrong paying almost $200 for a red cedar raised bed, or $60 for a copper trowel, or $40 for a vintage seed crate.  Most people who can afford those things are not by definition "agrarian".  Agrarian pertains to being dependent on agriculture as your primary means for support and sustenance.  The stuff is cute and very country, but maybe they should have come up with a different name.
