I had the best night last night and it involved a cover band, which is crazy (I know), but amazing. A very good friend and I attended the event of a lifetime – a boat cruise to the Statue of Liberty (America!) and back with a Talking Heads cover band. They actually call themselves a tribute band, but does it really matter? They cover Talking Heads’ songs and do a damn good job. End of story.
Was I little nervous about getting seasick while drinking and dancing on a boat? Yes. Was I totally fine and did I have the best night ever? Yes. First of all, the band is very good. I have never been to an actual Talking Heads concert, but they sound so much like all of the recordings that I can’t help thinking their sound is spot on. The name of the band is Start Making Sense and they rule. I never want to have a dance party on land again - boat or bust. It was a beautiful night with great weather, stiff drinks, and great company, not to mention a hefty workout of dancing our asses off. I loved it. Next time they come around, please join me.
Kate and I recently saw a similar tribute band at a local casino. It was free. We had some drinks. We gambled. We danced. They were pretty good but I have heard much better things about Start Making Sense. The band we saw was called Naive Melodies and they are from coastal northern California.
