I think all DIY house projects are respectable, as you are putting forth your efforts to create something pleasing for your home. However, I also think there are many different ways of doing things and depending upon the amount of effort you want to put forth, you can be left with something absolutely incredible or something that is kind of sort of cool. Enter the tin can lantern.
These would look quite nice with random holes poked in, once a candle was inserted and lit, and the sun went down, but look at the ones I found with leaves! Not only did this person choose an amazing color scheme, but he/she took the time to poke an actual design into the cans and in my opinion, these look spectacular. ..and the materials for this project are easy enough if you eat beans and use coconut milk to make curry on a semi-consistent basis. (I know I should be soaking dried beans overnight and not be buying canned beans, but oh well.) All you need aside from the cans is paint, something sharp, something to bang the sharp thing with, wire for hanging, and some twine. I realize the lanterns pictured aren’t hanging, but I want mine in the air or hanging from the branches that border our patio. I am adding this to my list of things to do.
