actual thread used to make and mend costumes |
I really enjoy fun facts, and what I mean by fun facts is useless information that comes in handy hardly ever, but makes me feel cooler knowing. I also enjoy getting to go places that are off limits to normal humans, and I don’t mean exclusive night clubs, or trespassing. I am talking about more “VIP site-seeing tour” kind of exclusive. In the last two weeks I got the opportunity to visit two places most people will never see: the bowels of the James A. Farley Post Office in New York City and the costume/sewing room for Paul Taylor Dance Company.
The later of the two was definitely the more exciting location, but I still feel special because I got to venture around the insides of New York City’s main post office. I wasn’t necessarily wondering around aimlessly, but I was still inside. Truth be told, it wasn’t that great, just normal offices, but I can say I’ve been there and that makes me feel awesome. The costume/sewing room was especially amazing. I am lucky to have a friend in the company and she gave me a tour of their facility. It is impressive, aside from being located on the Lower East Side. It was quite an honor to see costumes ready for upcoming performances from pieces that inspired me when I was a serious dancer. I feel so lucky and honored, and I hope someone takes me somewhere else obscure sometime soon.
