We carved our pumpkins this year by candle light. We lost power for a total of seven days, and if my memory serves me correctly, we carved on Day Two. I LOVE carving pumpkins. The last few years I carved trees in my pumpkins, but this year I did something very different; instead of using carving knives, I used our battery powered cordless drill. It felt a little funny using such a powerful tool (1) in the dark and (2) during a time when we had to turn to so many of our more traditional tools, but it was fun and the pumpkin came out great. I drilled two different sizes of holes all over the entire pumpkin. When lit up, it looked like a starry night sky. Unfortunately, Halloween was cancelled and we never got to officially showcase our pumpkins, but regardless, it still was a lot of fun and a tradition we will continue for many years...with the lights on.
That sounds like a great idea! Maybe I'll try it with the GIANT pumpkin from the school garden that we haven't yet decided what to do with. (And,I'm glad you're safe and sound and powered up!)
ReplyDeleteHi Kat,
ReplyDeleteI am glad someone is still reading this after my lengthy hiatus! This would look amazing on a giant pumpkin - I think the bigger the pumpkin, the better. I have seen one on Martha's website too, where they used different shaped drill bits and drilled the holes very close together. The pattern ended up resembling lace and looked pretty amazing. Cheers!
