my copy cat homemade ornament

I took the photo on the left at an artisan-type store in Providence, Rhode Island, while I was visiting some dear friends. I had planned on buying it for my husband, who still loves a peanut butter and jelly sandwich every so often day, but was flabbergasted to learn that the tag on the felt ornament said $14. Although I believe my husband is priceless, $14 felt like a bit too much to pay for a few pieces of felt.

So, I went to our nearby Michael's and picked up three different colors of felt; brownish/orange for the bread, tan for the peanut butter, and red for the jelly (the original had purple, but my husband prefers strawberry over grape). My first attempt came out great, and I ended up adding it to our pile of housewarming gifts for our friends in Vermont. My second attempt also came out great, so I used it as one of my homemade gifts for our hometown girlfriends Secret Santa. The one pictured is my third attempt, which is the one I gave to my husband. I stitched the eyes and mouth on using black thread, used Gorilla Glue and Krazy Glue to hold the felt together, and used kitchen twine as the hanging mechanism. There are actually two pieces of bread and the twine lives inside, but that was a choice to make it look more finished rather than a need. I also made mine a touch happier and put the eyes closer together. It makes me feel happy inside when I see it...and I can assure you the three I made cost a lot less than $14.
