scavenger hunts for big kids

My office has an official Happiness Committee. No, I am not on the committee. They plan an event for each season of the year. Summer and winter get off-site events. Spring and fall get in-house events, aka in the office. Since working here I have been on a boozy boat cruise with lunch, but I missed the other two events because of workshops; a potluck breakfast and ice-skating in Bryant Park. I was able to attend the last event, which was a scavenger hunt around the West Village managed by Watson Adventures. It was SO COOL.

It was a murder mystery plus scavenger hunt and we had to write down answers to questions, which pertained to where the scavenger hunt brought us. Then, we had to crack a code using certain letters from our answers. Each code stood for a word that we then had to fill in to its corresponding numbered blank, which was part of a larger paragraph of text. Once we read the paragraph, we had to figure out who did it and text the answer to a specific number. We received a text back if we were right, letting us know we saved the world. My favorite part was getting to see random places in the city that most people walk by every day, like this plaque. It says “on this site in 1897 nothing happend”. It is tiny and little, but awesome. Scavenger hunts are fun.
