Lisbeth Salander, the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo |
I have never really been into movies. I get bored easily and nine times out of ten, fall asleep halfway through. I have only been obsessed with a few movies in my day, which includes and is not limited to: Mannequin, Braveheart, Amelie, the Little Mermaid, and the Royal Tenenbaums. I have seen each of these movies at least twelve times. My all-time favorite is Amelie. I love everything about that movie. I remember going to the Academy of Music in Northampton, MA to see it, and my friend and I left feeling so happy and full of glee we held hands and skipped down Main Street together - I vote people should skip more often, like whenever they are happy.
I have recently become more interested in movies since I began reading, which was September of 2009. This past holiday weekend (shout out to MLK, Jr.!) my husband and I saw Girl With a Dragon Tattoo. It was a pretty darn good movie (also highly recommend the books). There were definitely some disturbing parts, but it was so well done that you really didn’t have to read the book to understand what was going on. I also think I am going to try and find time this weekend to watch The Help – another great book. And of course, I am counting down the days until The Hunger Games movie comes out - it can't come soon enough.
I think a movie is such a great reward to a good book. Also, me knowing the outcome helps out with the whole staying awake issue - I want to see how things are portrayed and see how events are carried out. It makes all the difference in the world if I am "watching" a movie as opposed to "waiting" for a movie because I already know what is going to happen.
Ok. This is getting uncanny. My favorite movie is Amelie - it brings tears of joy to my eyes at even the thought of it! AND I am reading GWADT RIGHT NOW so I can see the movie. This is getting weird.
ReplyDeleteKatherine - This IS uncanny (and btw - I love that word)! I thought things were weird after Taco, then came the laundry, then the teapot, now this. Are we long lost sisters? Seriously?
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of which, I am going to New York City for the weekend with Christa F. and Heather N. What are the chances you will also be in NYC and perhaps up for a cuppa coffee? And what are three things you would recommend food or art-wise? I know you know of a good cupcake or macaron bakery, right?
ReplyDeleteI believe I will be in the city on Sunday. Let me know what your plans are - I would be down for a cuppa tea. As for three things - Guggenheim ($$) or sunflower seeds (free), Penelope (Midtown) or The Park (Chelsea), and Crumbs cupcakes (they are all over).
ReplyDeleteOoh. Nice. Thank you for the recommendations. Can you email me your email/phone number so we can call and/or text when we figure out where we'll be on Sunday? My email is katherine.buell@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteWe're definitely going to go to the Gugg b/c on Friday or Saturday night, there is a period of time when it is free! Hollah!
Abbrevs and a hollah? Could Katherine be a long lost sasster????? Guggs!!!??!!?? LOVE IT
ReplyDeleteYes. We are slowly realizing that we are in fact related and we must have been separated at birth. She even has the same teapot as we do, but her's is blue and our's is green. Sisters are the greatest!
ReplyDeleteJass - I don't know you, but I like you :)
