pure-ish, but not for the purist obsessed

great display in my opinion,
so colorful and bright
I realize that some people are very proud of eating everything fresh and organic, and they should be; as long as it was farmed sustainably and is also relatively local.  I know I get happy when I can eat that way.  The next product I am about to introduce, would not necessarily be considered fresh, but I felt it was worth mentioning.  I present to you Earthbound Farm Organic Herb Purees, more specifically Dill - no artificial flavors or preservatives, of course.

I noticed this adorable little display this past week at our local farm market, Delicious Orchards.  I was about to purchase a fresh bunch of dill, but after seeing these little tubes of flavor and goodness, put it away.  (I know fresh dill is delicious.  I am aware, thank you.  It seemed like a good deal - and it was!)

Last night I broke open those beautiful little Easter eggs I made (see post below), and whipped up a batch of potato salad.  My husband and I have been gluten free for 2.5 weeks and it is a great main course for lunch that encompasses carbohydrates and protein, and also fills me up.  I used the dill and it is DELICIOUS - no mess, no waste.  Once we have our very own garden, I will probably shy away from purchasing herb tubes during summer months, but for right now I am digging it and recommend.

  1. Three posts in one day! You're setting a high precedent. Also, way to go making Easter eggs way in advance. I do hope you plan on eating them before Easter...or are they just the shell? Lastly, I also made potato salad to celebrate the warmth. Great choice.

  2. Amore!!!!! That is the brand that I was trying to think of. They make a bunch of different pastes. Sometimes Ray Ray uses the tomato in her dishes.

  3. I'll have to give these a try! I hate buying fresh basil etc and finding what's left wilted and brown in the back of the fridge two weeks later. I tried a basil paste a few years ago (different brand I think) that was greasy and unappealing so with your endorsement I'll be looking for this brand. :-)

  4. Eggs were full eggs and are in the potato salad. I enjoy potato salad with five ingredients; red potatoes, hard boiled eggs, celery, dill, and the slightest bit of mayonaise (I was thinking about using Greek yogurt next time as a substitute). I guess you cold call it seven because I also add salt and pep.
I believe I have seen the Amore tubes at OMGJ's house. I like the Earthbound ones because there are no preservatives. The dill tube is simply dill, canola oil, sea salt, vinegar, lemon juice, and tapioca syrup (I guess I don't know what that is...). The taste packs a punch though. Very good.
As for the herb waste, that was exactly what made me give this a try. As much as I would love to put the entire bunch in my batch of potato salad, I have learned (from experience) that an entire bunch is too much. Herbs never look as good as they do the day you buy them either. I was thinking about drying them, but this just seemed better.
