two restaurants worth mentioning (and a bar)

The first one is an old favorite.  The name is Penelope and it is located on Lexington (at 30th Street).  It is adorable.  It was by my old office and my bosses took me there on my first day because it reminded them of Vermont, which was where we had just moved from.  It is home cooking at its finest, although my absolute favorite thing to get there is the Curried Chicken Salad.  It is rich, creamy, and I crave it a lot.  Who craves salads you might ask?  I normally don’t, but this one is fantastic.  I would also recommend anything with their Warm Chicken Meatballs (appetizer, salad, AND sub), the Warm Brie and Green Apple sandwich, the Grilled Three Cheese Sandwich, and the Mac and Cheese.  Yum.  I am drooling just thinking about it.

a weekday is the perfect time to go.
We had the place to ourselves.

The next one was a pleasant surprise.  We met up with my husband’s cousin and her boyfriend last Friday evening and headed to Mary’s Fish Camp.  Mary’s is located in the West Village on Charles Street (on the corner of 4th Street).  It is a very small restaurant, so we had to wait a bit after putting our names in, but thankfully there was an awesome bar across the street (Fedora).  I recommend the Dirty Rain (tequila based cocktail with a pinch of smoked salt).  Once we were seated the fun began.  It was a meal full of seafood delights, which went perfectly with the warmer weather of last week (come back, I miss you).  I recommend the Deviled Eggs with Scottish Salmon, Conch Chowder, Low Country Boil, Lobster Roll, and the Bouillabaisse.  They have a variety of raw oysters, also, if you are into that kind of thing.  I am not.
