I am always so torn on decorating for fall/Halloween. This year we are going to have a plethora of trick-or-treaters, so I want to make the outside of the house look festive. However, we have little creatures in our yard that (most-likely) enjoy eating pumpkins and gourds, so I don’t know what to do. I really love how the stacked pumpkins look with house numbers, but one would need to find some pretty flat pumpkins, or jam a rod down the pile, which creates another hole that could get moldy and rotten. I read something about smearing Vaseline on the cut parts to prolong the pumpkins life, but I don’t see a little Vaseline deterring a hungry creature from taking a bite.
I am not really one for decorating with that spider web stuff either. I like natural fall décor. There must be something out there that is economical, festive, and long lasting…maybe even reusable?!?!? We tried roasting the pumpkin seeds a few years back too, but they came out awful. Need to learn a good way to do that, because pumpkin seeds are delicious, especially with a little salt.
Toss some shellac on the pumpkins. Not super Eco but they'll last a long time. Actually scratch that. Pretty sure it's flammable. (Was going to erase this whole thing but I am in the library trying not to laugh out loud after my comment. I'm an idiot but hope this makes whomever else reads this laugh too!)
