making art with what you already have

I ripped out two pages from a magazine this past weekend, pieced them together, and put them in a frame we received for Christmas. I LOVE how it came out. I did a bit of research about the artist, Stephanie Housely, and found out she is a graduate of Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), and created the company Coral & Tusk in 2007 with her husband.

She has a shop located in Brooklyn, New York and her “pocket dolls” as she calls them, sell for $69 apiece. Although I love the dolls (pictured), I do not think I need any, especially for $69. For now, the framed picture that cost a total of $0 will do. Click here to see more of her work. It really is quite impressive and I am grateful I came across the article.

  1. Stephanie Housely was in lil Rhody a few months back giving a lecture on her work, I had planned on going but alas missed it. I especially love the badges she makes.
P.S. Nice work on your art, it looks 3 dimensional!

  2. Thanks! I am really happy with how it came out, and of course you knew about her...that is so strange and special all at once. I thought about you guys when I read she went to RISD, so I guess it all makes sense.
